Pistoia

Pistoia is often wrong in the shadow of its famous neighboring cities of Florence and Pisa.

A beautiful, well-preserved old town with numerous sights and especially a beautiful Tuscan
market district awaits the visitors. Pistoia is the capital of the Tuscan province of Pistoia in Italy.

It has 90.00 inhabitants and is located 30 km from Florence on the river Ombrone Pistoiese.
Today, Pistoia is an industrial town known for metal products and the highest density of
nurseries in Europe. Pistoia is the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Pistoia, which dates
back to the 3rd century.

The city is particularly rich in precious Romanesque and Renaissance monuments and boasts
one of the most enchanting squares of Italy, the Cathedral Square, which is located in the
center of the city where is also the bourgeois and ecclesiastical center.

On this great square are the most important historic buildings in the area: the Cathedral of San Zeno,
inside the silver altar of San Jacopo; The bell tower built on an ancient tower of Lombardic origin
in the Romanesque style and reaching a total height of 67 meters.
But there is not only the cathedral square. The town hides some rare artistic beauties in the streets
of its old town, starting with the church of Sant 'Andrea, dating back to the VIIIth century
with its houses of the famous "pulpit of Sant Andrea" by Giovanni Pisano.

Thus, Pistoia is worth a visit for everyone who wants to get to know the true treasures of Tuscany.
Far away from the swirl of massive tourists like in Florence you have the chance to experience Tuscan life firsthand here.
